9 Through a partnership with Lendlease and Junior Landcare, Redland Bay State School were recently awarded a $5,000 grant for a Caring for Country – Bush Tucker garden project. The Caring for Country - Bush Tucker garden aims to create greater awareness of the importance of preserving the local cultural and environmental heritage of Redland Bay. The project’s lead and school’s Indigenous Champion, Toni Ladd, said that the aim of the project is to create greater awareness of the importance of preserving the local cultural and environmental heritage of Redland Bay. “The garden will act as an avenue for the school community to gain a deeper understanding of local plants and bush tucker. “This project is a great opportunity for us to collaborate with local Elders, environmental organisations and other community groups with design and construction, as well as the value in passing knowledge of local fauna and flora.” The school anticipates the bush tucker garden will open later this year. Congratulations to Toni, Alan and the team at Redland Bay State School, we look forward to seeing this project come to life. Community groups shape our growing community and recognising the importance of building communities from the ground up, we’ve created the Shoreline Community Grants Program. Administered by Bendigo Bank’s Community Enterprise Foundation, the program looks to support projects, initiatives or events that benefit the community of Shoreline and Redland Bay through improving social, environmental and economic outcomes. To ensure our contributions are responsive and relevant and that our residents and community groups of Shoreline and Redland Bay have an active role in shaping the community, the grants will be an ongoing (twice yearly) initiative that aims to help community-led projects thrive. Our inaugural round saw a high calibre of interest from deserving. The focus areas of this first round being on education and upskilling of the community, connecting and strengthening community relationships, assisting the start up and ongoing support of groups, programs and social enterprise, activating public space and celebrating the stories of Shoreline’s past and present. We are excited to announce the recipients of the inaugural round and their upcoming projects with you soon. Follow us on Facebook for the announcement. www.facebook.com/shorelineredlands .
