Your Voice Springfield Rise Autumn 2021

Traffic signal boxes get a ‘make over’ with students’ artwork Have you noticed colourful art popping up on traffic signal boxes around the streets of Springfield Rise? The visual art was produced when students from Spring Mountain State School took part in a Lendlease supported workshop with First Nations artist, Libby Harward. Libby shared her own personal stories of connection to country and weaved in local stories about the cultural history of White Rock - Spring Mountain Conservation Estate and the First Nations People’s traditional custodianship of the land. Classroom teacher Irene Williams said that the workshop was a culturally rich experience and that “when the students saw their work on display in the community, they felt like true artists with their work featured in a real-life gallery.” As shown on our front cover, the final artwork was wrapped on five traffic signal boxes in the streets adjacent to the school by Ipswich City Council. Each box depicts the students’ learnings from the workshop, putting water colour to paper to tell a story through images. You can find these on display at the corners of: • Spring Mountain Boulevard and Sierra Drive • .Spring Mountain Boulevard and Grande Avenue .• Spring Mountain Boulevard and Dublin Avenue • London Avenue and Dubai Circuit • London Avenue and Dublin Avenue The school also has a 28m wall banner of the full piece of artwork which will be displayed in the school hall. “the students ... felt like true artists with their work featured in a real-life gallery” Pictured are some of the students who took part in the workshop - From left: Eli, Mrs Williams, Bree, Archer, Alex, Niki, Simran and Paras Left - Eli next to his contribution, right - Bree spotted her kookaburra
