King Street Newsletter Summer 2021

WELCOME Happy New Year and hope this summer/autumn edition of the King St Community News finds you rested and ready for what 2021 has instore (which hopefully has a lot less of what 2020 had offered!). In this edition we chat to the new owners of 9Round Bowen Hills, meet Glen Adams - the Community Manager at WeWork 25 King and look at their recent NAIDOC Week pop-up art exhibition with an acclaimed First Nations artist. We also share feedback from our recent Better Places Index survey and celebrate 50 years of artisan! We also announce the inaugural King St Community Grants Program. This is incredibly exciting as this program aims to directly respond to local aspirations for community-led projects and initiatives that have social, economic and environmental outcomes that benefit King St and the wider community. I’ll be hosting a virtual info session where you can learn more, chat ideas and see how easy the online application process is. Contact me if you would like details. Are you the next face of King St? Or your four-legged best friend is? If you would like to feature in the next community newsletter, or have story suggestions, please get in touch. Bees of King St Ever bee-n in the common area gardens at The Green Apartments or at King St and noticed this box? It is a native stingless bee hive! Native Stingless Bees, also known as Sugar Bag Bees, are as their name suggests, stingless. They are small, dark coloured bees that are 3-5mm in size. These bees produce sugar bag honey, a highly prized food of the First Nations people who gathered it from wild nests. Each hive produces only small amounts of sugar bag honey, less than 1kg per year.
