King Street Newsletter Summer 2021

Creating better places Last year, a mix of residents, retailers, workers and visitors took part in our Better Places Index survey (our measurement and benchmarking tool for placemaking). The community insights shared in the Better Places Index help to identify priorities, inform decisions and improvement, driving excellence and best practice in placemaking. Placemaking is the collaborative process of making physical spaces respond to people’s needs and resonate with their aspirations more powerfully. Resident feedback about what is great about King St included: • The variety of restaurants, cafes, bars to eat and drink at. • The grassy area for dogs and exercise. • “It’s a hub for young people to socialise!” • “It has a relaxing atmosphere and a community vibe.” • “Easily accessible by public transport and there is parking available.” • “Good location for activities for all, not just surrounding suburbs.” Feedback also included suggestions for change, with residents noting they would like to see more signage for upcom- ing events and greater use of Alexandria Park for activations and pop-ups. Thank you to the King St residents, retailers, workers and visitors who gave their time to take part and share insights and feedback. As a team we are reviewing the report and identifying how we can incorporate this feedback into future placemaking of the King St precinct. Watch this space! Every day is Neighbour Day Did you know that across both The Green and The Yards apartments there is approximately 1500 residents that call King St home? The crazy year of 2020 saw so many great stories of neighbourly connection globally, from using balconies to stay in touch to sharing of home-grown produce, balcony discos to neighbourhood socially distanced drinks. Your neighbourly action might be a simple hi when you see your neighbour. Neighbour Day is an annual celebration of community and is held on the last Sunday of March each year. This year’s theme is ‘Every day is Neighbour Day’. It reinforces that connected people = connected communities. If you’re interested in hosting a Neighbour Day event, visit the www.neighbourday.org/ website for tips, ideas and resources (letterbox drop and contact card inspo) you can use to help get your neighbourhood/apartment floor/building or workplace connected!
