Calderwood Valley Autumn 2023 Newsletter

1 1 Healthy Cities Illawarra brings fun fitness program to residents Calderwood Valley residents laced up their shoes and hit the pavement in a walking club for a series of 5km walks throughout the community during the month of March! The “5x5” walking group, facilitated by Healthy Cities Illawarra with the support of the Calderwood Valley Seedling Fund, is a fantastic local initiative that encourages residents to walk for 5km for five consecutive weeks in March. Lendlease Calderwood Valley Social Impact Manager, Alison Ora said locals enjoyed the opportunity to meet other residents while improving their fitness, kicking off their walks from the Sprout Hub as a group and making their way through the network of walking paths in the community. Participants enjoyed some great fitness-freebies to help them keep active and healthy, including gym vouchers for free classes from Fernwood Shellharbour and BodyFit, as well as fresh fruit and vegetables, and exercise resistance bands. “Joining the group is a great way to manage feelings of social isolation, particularly for new Mums or older residents whose family might be at work for the day,” said Alison. “The simple act of walking in a group outdoors has plenty of social and physical health benefits, so we want to encourage our residents to utilise the beautiful parks and walkways here in Calderwood Valley.” Follow us on Facebook!
