Jordan Springs Newsletter - Spring 2022

7 Do you remember Nancy Messina, the singing Sales Consultant? If you purchased a house and land package at Jordan Springs between 2010 and 2014, you might remember Nancy Messina – our very own ‘singing Sales Consultant’. Employed as the first Sales Consultant at Jordan Springs, Nancy helped countless families find their dream house and land package at a time when the community was still coming to life. While real estate was her forte, it was her passion for singing and poetry that has remained in the minds of many Jordan Springs residents. “Writing poetry and lyrics to songs has always been a private dream of mine,” Nancy said. “If I see positivity and goodness in people or situations, I become creative and want to write a poem about it. I was overwhelmed with the creation of Jordan Springs so I was inspired to write poems... it allowed me to visualise the ‘completed’ community by our very talented Lendlease planners.” As new villages were developed, Nancy marked the occasion by writing a song or poem and sharing it with buyers and residents. Nancy worked in the Jordan Springs sales office for four years until 2014. When she left her Sales Consultant position to open a real estate agency, she gifted over 2,000 residents with a booklet of memories and poems she had created during her time in the Sales and Information Centre. She says that some of her favourite moments include working with the various builders, seeing the display village come to life and of course, helping people find their dream home. “My favourite element of Jordan Springs was definitely the unique planning of the different villages,” Nancy said. “However, for me, the heart of Jordan Springs is the lake, shopping centre and where the Sales and Information office is. It provides a relaxing environment and a real sense of belonging to a beautiful community.” It’s almost been ten years since Nancy left her position as a Jordan Springs Sales Consultant, but one thing that remains is her passion and fondness for the community. “I will always have Jordan Springs in my heart,” Nancy said. “The creation and introduction of Jordan Springs to the Penrith and adjoining community back in 2010 is one of the most joyous and happy journeys of my life. I will always cherish the memories created with the residents and population of Jordan Springs!” Fighting like a girl in the name of breast cancer research Jordan Springs East local, Tannith Carson, received the life changing news in August that she would be one of the 20,000 Australians diagnosed with breast cancer this year. While trying to process the thought of having cancer, she was asked the same question many others receive in the wake of a diagnosis - ‘what can we do to help?’. “My diagnosis was a complete shock and whilst I intend to ‘fight like a girl’, I also want to do whatever it takes to raise awareness and funds into research,” said Tannith. “I saw that Breast Cancer Month was coming up and thought, why not host the Breast Cancer Brunch (a National Breast Cancer Foundation fundraiser) and try and raise as much money for research as we can. It’s because of these events that I can receive the treatment I am today.” With the help of family and friends, Tannith organised and hosted a brunch at her house on the 22nd of October, welcoming 50 guests into her home. With an initial fundraising target of $1,000, Tannith smashed her goal and managed to raise over $6,000 for the National Breast Cancer Foundation. This goal was made possible with not only the help of her family and friends, but from local businesses donating goods and services to a raffle she held on the day. “I would like to thank everyone including Lendlease for all of the support,” Tannith said. “I am in absolute shock at the generosity of people that have read my story online and are willing to donate towards the raffle, purchase tickets and also donate to my brunch.” Tannith would like to thank Woolworths Jordan Springs for their donation towards the food served at her fundraiser. Jordan Springs music teacher celebrates success at the Sydney Fringe Festival On the back of her studio’s success at the Sydney Fringe Festival, local music teacher Lynsey Mackay shares what it takes to foster the next generation of performers. Kaleidoscope, an anti-bullying musical written and produced by the Jordan Spring’s music teacher, is a show ‘for kids, by kids’ with a live band and professional actors. Showcased at this year’s Fringe, Lynsey said her students were ecstatic about being part of such a ‘dynamic’ festival. “We are very blessed to have been part of the Sydney Fringe Kids Week and hope we can be part of this again,” Lynsey said. “It gives the children a chance to perform as part of a professional show and act and perform as part of a team. The show has a beautiful message of tolerance and acceptance and we really enjoyed producing theatre for children.” Originally hailing from Scotland, Lynsey has been a professional entertainer for 30 years and has travelled the globe before settling here in Jordan Springs. Her worldly experience allows her to teach piano and singing lessons to people of any age or life stage, teaching children from as little as four years of age, right through to seniors in their golden years. The key to musical success for her students is simple – measure every student against themselves, and celebrate every milestone and win, no matter how big or small. “I measure their success on their own goals,” Lynsey said. “So, the students that finish their book in class is as much of a success as my students that compete or perform. I try to foster a non-competitive and loving environment for the students so the they can inspire and support one another in their pursuits.”
