Barangaroo South Sustainability Report 2021 - 2023
At Barangaroo South, our sustainability initiatives have laid a strong foundation for an energy-efficient, water-saving precinct for the operators. Here is a glance at what we’ve achieved: Water Recycling and Treatment • Located in the Barangaroo South shared basement, the wastewater facility processes all sewer water from Barangaroo South including Crown Sydney Resort, to provide recycled water to the precinct for use in toilets and other non-potable usages. • All toilets (except bidet style) are connected to the recycled water system which reduces potable water consumption. • The Precinct sewer systems are connected to the site wide ‘Black Water’ treatment system, that captures and recycles wastewater for toilet flushing and irrigation. • This initiative enables the precinct to be water positive, meaning once fully operational the precinct is capable of capturing, treating, storing, delivering and exporting an amount of recycled water which is not less than the amount of potable water used within the precinct. Solar Photovoltaic System (Solar PV) • Solar panels on all commercial and residential towers generate enough power to support the recycled water treatment plant and illuminate public domains. • All towers have an embedded Solar PV System that reduces overall electrical load in the towers. • A combined solar PV System + green roof (biosolar) at Daramu House delivers energy efficiency and ecological benefits. District Cooling Plant (DCP) • The DCP supplies chilled water, enhanced by seawater cooling, for efficient cooling of the chillers located in the 1A Basement. This system supports the air conditioning and refrigeration for the precinct. • By utilising the DCP, improved efficiency in chiller operations and distribution throughout Barangaroo South is achieved, leading to reduced energy consumption. • The DCP eliminates the need for individual cooling plants in each tower, resulting in notable operational cost savings, heightened energy efficiency, significant reduction in water consumption and additional roof space to accommodate more solar. 28 Sustainability Report 2021–23 Barangaroo South SHAPING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
