Barangaroo South, a place for the future Barangaroo South is an invaluable opportunity to make a serious difference to people and the planet by creating a place with sustainability at its heart. It is our collective responsibility to do everything in our power to safeguard the world we live in for future generations. As the construction of Barangaroo South continues, we are proud to have delivered a vibrant and resilient, economically and socially sustainable precinct that will leave a legacy for generations to come. We have built this precinct with the future in mind, utilising a wide range of sustainable materials and initiatives, from schemes that minimise the use of fossil fuels, to water conservation practices, innovative waste management and carbon neutral construction. With ambitious targets to be Net Zero Carbon by 2025 for Scope 1 and 2 emissions, and Absolute Zero Carbon for Scopes 1, 2 and 3 emissions, within the Lendlease-defined boundaries and without the use of offsets, Lendlease is leading the way for the industry to make powerful, impactful change. We aim to continue achieving our precinct sustainability targets through our action on climate resilient initiatives, efficient use of resources and materials, as well as our social responsibilities toward community inclusion, First Nations engagement and wellbeing. Communities can’t thrive if the world around us doesn’t. Barangaroo South is a place for everyone, and our approach to sustainability is core to everything we do and create. About this report This report is delivered online in downloadable format. Pages 12 – 17 provide the project background and are delivered consistently in all reports for the precinct. They illuminate the project’s history, give the reader context, and situate our story strongly in the place that is Barangaroo South. The case studies and progress reports from pages 19 – 79 detail our progress for the year 2021 -2023. These are updated to reflect the work of Lendlease and the community at Barangaroo South. This report allows Lendlease to document and celebrate numerous achievements while providing clear evidence to our partners at INSW and the wider community of the considerable sustainability and social progress being made across the precinct by us and our partners.
