Junior Landcare Grants Since 2019, Lendlease has proudly partnered with Landcare Australia’s Junior Landcare program, with the aim of nurturing the next wave of environmental and community leaders. The collaboration focuses on youth engagement and community involvement to drive impactful environmental and social changes in regions where Lendlease operates. In 2022, the Lendlease Junior Landcare Grants program allocated $38,500 in funding to 13 pioneering projects across New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, and Western Australia. These projects have engaged 2,155 children and 93 volunteers in activities ranging from creating bush tucker and native gardens to establishing a solar-powered composting system and an aquaponics sensory garden, as well as waste management and recycling initiatives. As part of the Junior Landcare Grants Program, One Sydney Harbour awarded a grant to Guardian Childcare and Education Barangaroo. The education centre collaborated with Aboriginal owned, run and staffed nursery, IndigiGrow, which saw young children take up gardening tools to propagate plants from the nursery. The project has transformed the terrace, now bursting with greenery, providing homes for worms and insects, and demonstrating the health of the soil. The IndigiGrow team has been visiting the centre, based in International Towers Sydney, Barangaroo South, to inspire the children in their green-thumbed pursuits, with the intention of building the community’s understanding of bush tucker and how the traditional owners of the land use the food available to them. IndigiGrow has helped Guardian Childcare and Education build a strong connection with First Nations culture and will continue visiting to further this initiative.
