One Sydney Harbour and The Burdekin Association join forces Community Day is an annual event where Lendlease employees volunteer their time and skills to make a difference. Over the years, we have helped support people struggling with homelessness, aided disaster recovery efforts, renovated buildings for those in need, restored important green spaces, assisted children with special needs and mentored students and young adults. For Community Day in October 2022, Lendlease’s One Sydney Harbour team partnered with The Burdekin Association. This non-profit organisation is committed to combating youth homelessness through an integrated approach that includes semi-independent living arrangements and supportive services. Located in Stanmore, in Inner West Sydney, the property offers shared living spaces for teenagers on their journey to independence. More than 30 team members volunteered over 225 hours to refurbish these communal areas. The day’s activities encompassed painting, cleaning, clearing, and outdoor work, all geared towards adding that extra touch of care and comfort to residents’ lives. Contributions extended beyond our team; Dulux donated paint, Bingo provided bins, and Coates Hire supplied essential equipment. We also made donations of outdoor furniture and indoor plants. Learn more about The Burdekin Association here FutureSteps grant assists vulnerable youth Building on this partnership, The Burdekin Association secured an $89,000 FutureSteps grant in 2023 to amplify its impact. The grant will focus on vulnerable young individuals from the age of 9, particularly those in out-of-home care. It will fund the renovation of an existing house, increasing its capacity to feature two self-contained units and an additional bedroom. These renovations will further support young people from out-of-home care, as they transition to independent living, providing them with essential life skills.
