Celebrating First Nations Women International Women’s Day at Barangaroo Reserve with NASCA  The strength and resilience of First Nations women was the focus of an International Women’s Day celebration in March 2022 curated by project partner NASCA in collaboration with the One Sydney Harbour team. The event was held at The Cutaway at Barangaroo Reserve, a venue that inherently resonates with First Nations legacy. NASCA’s corporate partners were encouraged to prepare for the event by watching a short oral history video about the life and legacy of the Cammeraygal woman, Barangaroo, aptly titled The Spirit of Barangaroo. Barangaroo was a Cammeraygal woman who was a considerable influence in the days of the early European colony. She is remembered as one of the key Aboriginal leaders in the late 1700s, and as a powerful woman of great integrity and resilience. Her story set the tone for the day’s activities, designed to honour the indelible impact of First Nations women on our community and history. The celebration included an Aboriginal cultural tour around Barangaroo Reserve, designed to enrich understanding of the land’s historical and cultural significance. Attendees enjoyed a picnic made from native ingredients as they looked out over the breathtaking view of Sydney Harbour.
