King Street Newsletter Spring 2021

We are thrilled to support seven local organisations through the inaugural King St Community Grants Program! We caught up with Jazz Music Institute (JMI) CEO Nick Quigly to find out why a little extra funding can go a long way. “This community grant enables JMI to share our love of jazz with the King St precinct, so we’re looking forward to a big turnout of families and workers from the local community and beyond,” Nick said. “Our 18-piece Big Band is a really exciting, diverse group that brings together JMI students, alumni and teachers. We love performing and inspiring people of all ages and backgrounds by introducing then to the joy of jazz.” Congratulations to these innovative initiatives which shared a total of $14,000: z Artisan: Make a Mug, Make a Friend King St residents had fun making their own mugs, with expert help from ceramicist Carys Martin. z Fortitude Valley Secondary College P&C: Circular Economy Project Giving students first-hand experience of environmental and social sustainability issues. z The Green Body Corporate: Community Connection Reconnecting King St residents following the social challenges of COVID restrictions. z Jazz Music Institute: Alexandria Park Concerts The JMI Big Band will put a swing in your step with three free concerts in Alexandria Park. z Space & Co: Laneway Murals Local artists have revitalised the Space & Co laneway, creating unique public art in this inviting shared space. z Suited to Success: Styling for Job Seekers Helping job seekers to feel confident and achieve their goals with personalised styling sessions. z 3rd Space: Creating Connectivity Providing phone and internet connections to help vulnerable individuals access services and achieve independence.
