COMMUNITY FEEDBACK SHAPING ALKIMOS CENTRAL CITY CENTRE Alkimos Central is planned to become a dynamic, adaptive place to live, learn, work and retreat that is shaped by community input. In August DevelopmentWA formed a Community Reference Group for Alkimos Central city centre. The group are made up of community representatives and key stakeholders living and working within Alkimos and the surrounding northern coastal corridor. The groups initial role is to share and provide feedback from the community into the planning and design of stage 1 of the city centre, which includes establishing a central square and vibrant community hub with flexible and adaptive spaces, activating the area around Alkimos train station from its opening, which is expected to be 2022. To ensure what we share with the group is accessible to the wider community DevelopmentWA created a ‘Have Your Say’ webpage. For our initial survey on the Central square and community hub activation we received a fantastic response, with around 200 people providing input into how they would travel to and spend time at their future city centre community hub and central square. LEATHERBACK SPORTS AMENITIES BUILDING CLOSE TO COMPLETION Construction is underway on the new Leatherback Sports Amenities Building at Leatherback Oval, Alkimos Beach. Site works are taking shape with plans to finish construction in December. The new building, being constructed by the City of Wanneroo, includes a community multi-purpose room, two change rooms, kiosk, first aid room, umpire room and public toilets. Several sporting clubs including AFL, Lacrosse, Cricket and T-Ball already use Leatherback Oval for winter and summer competitions and training. The new building will replace the three transportable buildings on site and will bring us one step closer to completing the Leatherback Fitness precinct that already features the Fitness Park, Playing Oval and Floodlights. Visit wanneroo.wa.gov.au/communityfacilityprojects for more details. HAVE YOUR SAY SURVEY WINNERS Survey respondents went into a draw to win Gateway gift vouchers to the value of $100.
