INTERVIEW

A/W education:
Head Designer of the iconic Australian brand Cue,
Chloe Gray shares some of her on-trend fashion wisdom.
C
ue is celebrating 45 years of
Australian fashion this year.
How do you stay relevant for
that incredible amount of time?
Being predominantly Australian made
allows us to experiment with limited
runs and have new designs and trends
in store 6 weeks from sketch to shop
floor. With a love for the past and a
fascination with what’s new – Cue is
committed to continually reinterpret
and deliver trends in unexpected
ways. The Cue signature is created
and founded on our commitment to
creativity and design – and to delivering
on what our customer wants.
What are your favourite trends of
Autumn/Winter 2014, and why?
My favourite trends for Winter are the
new length pencil skirts which hit just
below the knee, paired back with one
of our great bomber jackets.
What are your favourite Cue pieces
this season, and why?
I am loving the new cocoon coats this
season. The new shape and silhouette
offers a modern update to a wardrobe
staple. My pick would be our Soft
Textured Wool Cocoon Coat as it would
be great thrown over a simple shift
dress; the combination of shapes and
textures creates an effortless look to
wear from ‘desk to dinner’.
Describe a standard day in the life
of a Cue designer.
I can’t say there is a standard day
for a Cue designer because everyday
is different. From looking at new
fabrics and prints, selecting the right
colours, working one on one with our
patternmakers to perfect our designs,
to fitting new styles in design meetings…
and of course sketching up to 30 new
and original designs each week!
