Alkimos Voice Winter 2020

LEATHERBACK SPORTS AMENITIES BUILDING NOW UNDER CONSTRUCTION Construction is underway on the new Leatherback Sports Amenities Building at Leatherback Oval, Alkimos Beach. Site works are taking shape with plans to finish construction in November. The new building includes a community multi-purpose room, two change rooms, kiosk, first aid room, umpire room and public toilets. Several sporting clubs including AFL, Lacrosse, Cricket and T-Ball already use Leatherback Oval for winter and summer competitions and training. The new building will replace the three transportable buildings on site and will bring us one step closer to completing the Leatherback Fitness precinct that already features the Fitness Park, Playing Oval and Floodlights. Sustainability and Development Update ALKIMOS BEACH FIRST COMMUNITY IN AUSTRALIA TO BE RECERTIFIED AS A 6 STAR GREEN STAR COMMUNITY Alkimos Beach, which achieved Australia’s first 6 Star Green Star-Communities rating for a residential master- planned project in 2015, is Australia’s first 6 Star Green Star - Communities project to recertify under the Green Building Council of Australia’s program. Alkimos Beach development partners Lendlease and DevelopmentWA have focussed on delivering a thoughtfully planned, innovative and sustainable coastal community of global significance that’s moving towards carbon-neutral living. Green Star – Communities, operated by the GBCA, is one of the world’s first independent, transparent, national schemes designed to assess and certify the sustainability of large-scale master-planned development projects. Projects must recertify every three to five years until fully built out and Alkimos Beach exceeded its original certification score, receiving additional points for the delivery of innovation projects and sustainability measures. DevelopmentWA CEO Frank Marra said that he was delighted that yet again, Alkimos Beach had been acknowledged as world leading. “Alkimos Beach is part of the biggest and most significant coastal development north of Perth in 50 years and its recertification under the Green Building Council of Australia’s internationally respected sustainability rating system recognises our determination to deliver long term economic, social and environmental sustainability. Alkimos Beach also achieved another sustainability recertification, with UDIA awarding the project once more with all six ‘leaves’ under the UDIA’s prestigious EnviroDevelopment scheme. Alkimos Beach received Western Australia’s first six-leaf accreditation back in 2012, so we’re thrilled to have earned this accreditation again!
