Jordan Springs Newsletter Winter 2022

7 Landcare Week and grant for Jordan Springs Public School Landcare Week will be held by Landcare Australia from 2 - 8 September and is a time to acknowledge and reflect on the great work being carried out by over 100,000 volunteers nationally who give up their valuable time to care for this great country. Our local primary school Jordan Springs Public School was lucky enough to receive a $2,500 grant from our Lendlease Junior Landcare grant program. As a foundation school in our newly built community, Jordan Springs Public School is establishing positive practices that promote citizenship and ongoing positive environmental outcomes. The grant will be utilised to establish a native garden to support local wildlife, including bird feeders to enhance habitat for birds. The garden plot selected for the project is located in the playground and is approximately 8m x 2m in size. Senior leadership students will play a key role in co-planning the project and share its significance with the school community, by involving K-6 students in the implementation phase and posting updates on Facebook, Instagram and in the school newsletter. As an already a ‘green’ school, with sustainability embedded in their ‘paperless’ approach to teaching and learning, this project intends to broaden student understanding about how to care for our environment. Congratulations to the Jordan Springs Public School team! Regional Open Space – Update The Regional Open Space working group has made excellent progress with its design, set to incorporate multiple sports fields for the local community and acknowledgement of its traditional owners. The group has worked closely with the Darug Custodians, who gave the design statement “You can’t pick a piece and take away the rest – Everything is interconnected, Country is everything and all is equally important .” Pending council approval, the space will accommodate multiple soccer/rugby fields, a premier AFL/cricket field, netball courts, cricket nets, a multi-use games court and other areas for play and community activities. The next stage of the process is to finalise the engineering elements for water management and safety. Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2023. Watch this space.
