S t a r t yo u r n e x t c h a p t e r a t Sh o r e l i n e Storytelling mural to feature in Jingeri Park rt your next chapter at Shoreline Thank you to all the budding artists who put brush to paper and created their own masterpieces at Shoreline’s cultural art workshop recently. Children of Shoreline took part in a special co-creation activity, where they learnt about the First Nations stories of the local area to create their own works of art. A creative art collaboration between the children of Shoreline and Ngugi artist of the Quandamooka people, Libby Harward and Mununjali/Yugambeh artist Uncle Allan Lena, the cultural art workshop invited the children to learn about First Nations stories of the local area and then interpret those stories to create their own masterpieces. One of those stories was about ‘Jingeri Jingeri’ - which is name for the willy wagtail in the Yugambeh language. If you look around you’ll often see the willy wagtail bird hopping around at Shoreline. The artists plan to weave the images into the final design, which will be featured in a mural in the new park. The mural will form the base of the ‘cliff’ that holds up the lighthouse structure. Surrounding the mural will be blue softfall and nets that stimulate water and waves, and the sand creates a sense of place. Currently under construction, the park is scheduled to open to the public in late 2022. We look forward to welcoming the young artists back when the mural is complete.
