How well do you know your neighbours? Here at Springfield Rise, we believe that a safe and friendly community is built on positive relationships with neighbours and the people around you. To help build these connections, we encouraged residents to take part in Neighbour Day – an annual celebration of community hosted by Relationships Australia. To promote the day, we put 20 barbecue starter packs up for grabs! Interest was strong with the packs taken up quickly and a record number of residents hosting Neighbour Day celebrations in Springfield Rise parks, driveways and homes! Dipin Kalra was one of these participants. He and his wife were excited to participate in the event as a way of giving back to their neighbours after enjoying such a friendly, warm welcome to the neighbourhood last year. “We were inspired to participate in Neighbour Day because of how helpful our neighbours were when we moved into our new home last year,” Dipin said. “Not only did our neighbours bring us dinner after my wife gave birth, but we’ve also borrowed a car battery charger when we were in need. They have always been so friendly and inviting – they were particularly welcoming of my daughter which means a lot to me. “It is very important to know the people you live near to help you feel safe. We have a diverse mix of people in our street which is a great way for different cultures to learn about each other,” Dipin said. Dipin’s family and their neighbours celebrated Neighbour Day by playing games such as pass the parcel, musical chairs, charades and more! To find out more about Neighbour Day, visit www.neighbourday.org Welcome to the neighbourhood It was wonderful to welcome our newest Springfield Rise residents at the ‘Meet your Neighbours’ event in May. Sunny autumn May weather and good company rounded out a great afternoon. Fantastic to have community organisations involved too, including the Springfield Division Neighbourhood Watch with an info stand and the the sausage sizzle being operated by Spring Mountain State School P&C. Welcome gifts were a hit as well, handwoven baskets with goodies inside, supplied by First Nations start-up business, Tea and Belle. See if you can spot anyone you know in our wrap up video. Keep an eye on Facebook for dates for the next Meet Your Neighbours.
