Reconciliation Action Plan - page 7

We are humbled by the warmth and generosity of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander communities, organisations and individuals who have shown us this is
possible. Since 2011, we have worked with the Bourke Aboriginal Community on its
implementation of Maranguka, the community’s self-determination strategy. I have
the greatest admiration for Bourke’s leaders who have, through a collective impact
approach, focused the attention of governments and the wider community on Justice
Reinvestment, a new way to address the shameful over representation of Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander people in the justice system.
We are working on initiatives that will make meaningful change in the way we do
business. For example, our Building business has set a target to have all employees
undertake cultural awareness learning sessions with an Indigenous owned training
business. Our Property business has developed an enabling protocol to create
Indigenous procurement opportunities through the Procurement Guidelines, which
govern all procurement transactions in the business.
We have the capacity to influence our sector and our supply chain through working with
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations to design and implement Indigenous
Participation Plans (IPP) on our projects and in our assets across Australia. We are also working
with our key clients to set ambitious goals and targets and create innovative, community-led
approaches to deliver on them. Major construction projects around the country now include
IPPs and we will be monitoring, measuring and reporting progress against them.
We have recently agreed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Darkinjung
Local Aboriginal Land Council on the NSW Central Coast where we are redeveloping
Gosford Hospital. The MoU details the principles under which we will collaborate
and be led by Darkinjung on the most effective approaches to training, skilling,
employment and business incubation in that Aboriginal community and will provide
a template for future projects. This RAP document details many other examples
of initiatives Lendlease is developing and delivering to close the gaps between
Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.
