Reconciliation Action Plan - page 17

• In 2014 we signed a 10 year partnership with
CareerTrackers, along with 10 other corporate
organisations, committing to the development of
young Indigenous business leaders in professional
roles in corporate Australia. Lendlease businesses will
host a minimum of 25 interns each year.
• We have had over 60 CareerTrackers interns working
with Lendlease businesses since 2011. Two interns
have graduated and transitioned to roles within
Lendlease’s Property business and six continue to
work part time while they complete their studies. At
least 20 interns will work with Lendlease through the
summer university vacation.
• As agreed with CareerTrackers, interns apply for the
Lendlease graduate programs and our dedicated
CareerTrackers program manager is working with
the recruitment team to ensure a smooth transition
between internship and graduate program. Lendlease
Building has a 4% Indigenous graduate target.
• Lendlease was recognised for its commitment to
CareerTrackers with the CareerTrackers Trailblazer
Award in 2012, Business Coordinator Award in 2013,
and Manager of the Year Award in 2014.
• Several of our CareerTrackers interns have addressed
the Lendlease Board, the annual executive leadership
forum, and senior management teams telling
their stories and promoting the CareerTrackers
program within Lendlease. Intern Magdalen Corr
also presented on CareerTrackers to the Education
& Employment delegation of the G20 during their
visit to Sydney hosted by the Federal Department of
Education, Employment and Workplace Relations.
• In 2013, CareerTrackers won the Property Council of
Australia (PCA) Spiire Award for Innovation at the PCA’s
Innovation and Excellence Awards, jointly nominated
by Lendlease, Leighton Contractors and GHD.
• We have run the Young Indigenous Pathways
program with Cranebrook High School and Chifley
College Shalvey Campus in Western Sydney as part
of our community partnership with the Greater
Western Sydney Giants since 2013. This leadership
development program for Year 9 and 10 students
has seen 70 graduates from the program with a
number of them taking on leadership roles at school,
re-engaging in the classroom, and taking up work
experience opportunities. One student this year
joined the Galuwa Engineering and IT Experience at
the University of Technology Sydney (UTS).
PROGRESS MADE AND LESSONS LEARNED 2011-2015
• The National Aboriginal Sporting Chance
Academy (NASCA) has reviewed the first two
years of the Young Indigenous Pathways Program
and made recommendations for a more focused
governance structure, greater alignment with
the curriculum and schools, and more cultural
oversight by Aboriginal Elders and Indigenous
education specialists.
• We have supported and funded the Galuwa
program at UTS since 2013, providing the
opportunity for 78 Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander students to visit live construction/urban
regeneration projects in Sydney and learn about
a career in civil engineering as well as about
University life during their winter break.
• Over 60 employees have joined AIME mentors
and mentees in ‘Windows to the Future’ Sessions
since 2012, sharing their life and work experience
with AIME students who want to better
understand career pathways into our industry.
• Over 200 Lendlease managers have attended and
volunteered at Yalari’s annual dinners in Sydney,
Brisbane and Melbourne since 2011 to experience
the development of young Indigenous leaders
through Yalari’s scholarships.
