Reconciliation Action Plan - page 21

• In May 2015, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner,
Mick Goodna and Linda Burney MP, the first Aboriginal person elected to the NSW
Parliament and the first Aboriginal woman elected to Federal Parliament, led a
Lendlease group of employees, partners and co-collaborators on the Journey to
Bourke in far west NSW. The group learned about Constitutional Recognition and
what it means in the life of an Aboriginal community like Bourke.
• Lendlease Engineering’s Dan Guthrie was awarded the 2015 Lendlease Global
Employee Excellence Award for Diversity & Inclusion in recognition of the partnership
he developed with the North Coast Aboriginal community, North Coast TAFE, and
Skilled Workforce Solutions to train 11 young Aboriginal people in civil construction.
• Through 2014/15, we have been supporting the Cape York Indigenous Mayors
Association (CIMA) and business owners in Cape York (CY) to develop a
new model of infrastructure delivery in which CY communities have greater
participation in major projects and more economic opportunity flowing back
into their communities. Our Engineering business has also provided advice and
support for smaller community infrastructure projects.
• Cath Brokenborough was invited to participate in the North Queensland Land
Council’s Land Summit in 2015.
• We have been an active member of the Business Council of Australia’s (BCA)
Business Indigenous Network, the Indigenous Corporate Network, and the UN
Global Compact Network Australia Indigenous Engagement Working Group since
their inception.
• Lendlease Group CEO Steve McCann is a member of the BCA’s CEO Taskforce on
Indigenous Engagement. In 2014 we joined other members of the BCA’s Business
Indigenous Network, Reconciliation Australia, Indigenous Business Australia and
Supply Nation to collaborate on scaling an Indigenous procurement model.
• We partnered with Reconciliation Australia and the Diversity Council of Australia
in 2013 to produce a research paper Closing the Work Gap in Corporate Australia:
Indigenous Perspectives on Effective Community Engagement in the Private Sector.
• We partnered with the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence (NCIE) to pilot
an on-site Indigenous Employment Hub at Barangaroo South. Since the Hub
commenced operating with a dedicated Aboriginal employment coordinator,
60 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have been placed in jobs with
subcontractors and Lendlease. As at August 2015, 85 Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander people work on site at Barangaroo South, 22 of whom are apprentices.
