WORKING TOGETHER
MATTHEW BLACKWELL
Matthew was employed by Lendlease to work on the Pacific Highway
upgrade on the NSW North Coast. Matthew applied for the job through
the job seeking network, Skilled, in Port Macquarie.
His work titled “Working Together” depicts a section of this highway and
the Hastings, Wilson and Maria rivers in an aerial view. It is an acrylic
on canvas work using dot painting technique to signify the topography
of the area. Two sets of hands represent the notion of black and white
people working together.
Matthew Blackwell is a descendant of
the Dunghutti people. The Dunghutti
traditional lands lie in the Macleay Valley,
which extends from the eastern extremity
at the Mid North Coast of NSW to the
Northern Tablelands in the west around
the Macksville area.
