Resident Debbie Hassan runs the ‘Come Dine with Us’
project where home cooked monthly meals are provided for residents
to enjoy, as well as each other’s company.
Debbie established the program after realising a
need for residents to have home-cooked communal dinners.
“All I would smell coming home at night was people
making toast for dinner.”
Residents pay $6 to enjoy a meal and dessert,
with volunteers preparing the food together.
“Sixteen people came to the first dinner in August 2013.
Last month’s dinner attracted sixty.”
Ms Hassan was named Chifley Volunteer of the Year
after the success of the project.
