To reduce waste, the majority of Lendlease Retirement Villages
have vegetable gardens and compost bins.
Composting is an easy way to make good use of food scraps.
The compost from this process can be used as fertiliser to
improve the quality of our soils for growing more veggies.
Deborah Alcock, Village Manager at Pittwater Village, has been
working with Pittwater Council to implement a new composting
program. “The council will be providing compost bins for our
residents and also a workshop for residents to attend to learn
about composting.”
Pittwater’s new gardening club can now use the rich compost
to fuel their green gardens. “Once the composting is established,
Pittwater Council have also discussed having a village worm
farm for our gardens.”
