THE VILLAGE WILLIAMSTOWN
With poor access, the gardens were only used by
a small number of residents. Peter worked with the
residents and village team to reinvigorate the
area, improving access to the gardens by levelling
the pathway and raising the beds off the ground.
The veggie garden is now a hive of activity
and a major attraction in the village with
well over 25 regular users.
Consisting of 22 garden beds and a rest area, residents
are now able to relax and enjoy their gardening.
They now stay active by gardening and reap the
rewards of what they sow with healthy, delicious,
home-grown vegetables. Both residents and staff are
very proud of their veggie garden and use it to
promote their village – showing off beautiful,
green, sustainable gardens.
When Peter Mills came to The Village Williamstown as
Village Manager, he saw an opportunity to reinvigorate the veggie gardens
and promote the message of sustainability.
